#Claimthetorch

“A movement is not a flash of light — it is a flame, a torch passed from one generation to the next and every so often we are blessed with moments where the smolder transforms to blaze again and we’re forced to race down the path of progress.”

Perception is Everything: Anti-Racism Activist Jane Elliot

Ed Bell

This is the first episode in the Institute for Dismantling Racism's (IDR) "Telling Your Story" series. Members of IDR tell their stories. This is Ed Bell, professor at Winston-Salem State University.

Anti-Racism activist Jane Elliot, the infamous proponent of the blue eyes brown eyes experiment, appeared on a 1992 episode of Oprah insisting that the world map is just one of many aspects of the education system in America that promotes and perpetuates racism and misleads classrooms, calling the map "a flat out lie"
